Research Vision

I often get asked what my research vision is. My research is devoted to the area of welding of high performance thermoplastic composite materials. Why?

I believe that welding is the most cost-effective and eco-friendly joining solution that can enable robust assembly of high performance polymer composite structures.

I continue to devote my career to exploring various welding techniques, optimizing the welding processes and expanding their boundaries to maximize mechanical performance. I truly believe this can only be achieved through a holistic physics-based understanding of the process.

    TAPAS 2

    Thermoplastic Affordable Primary Aircraft Structures

    The TAPAS Project is a collaboration between Dutch companies, Dutch knowledge institutions and Airbus. It is supported by a major grant from the Ministry of Economic Affairs in the Netherlands. The industrial and scientific partners in the TAPAS consortium closely work together on the development of thermoplastic composite primary structural aircraft parts and the corresponding enabling technologies.

    Within the TAPAS project, my research group focuses on:

    • Development of sequential ultrasonic welding for thermoplastic composite structures
    • Understanding of environmental performance of thermoplastic composite welded joints and its relationship with the welding process
